Sleep is vital to our health, so in turn vital to the maintenance of our skin. Sleep helps to support our immune system and recovery of our bodily systems, and as the skin is our largest organ it needs adequate recovery time from the stresses of the day, allowing the release of endorphins which help assist in restful sleep and allow the body to rejuvenate. Massage is one way to help encourage a restful nights sleep and to reduce dangerous cortisol levels. Along with the use of aromatherapy oils you can help to promote a calmer, refreshed and renewed sense of wellbeing.
Essential oils that can help with sleep:
Frankincense- is anti-depressive and anti-inflammatory
Roman chamomile- is calming and has a sedative effect
Lavender- is a calming and has a sedative effect, it is also anti-inflammatory
Sweet marjoram- is calming on the nervous system and promotes relaxation
Try a few drops into an oil burner or vaporiser specially for essential oils, or a few drops with a cup of milk poured into a warm bath before bed.
Always check essential oils to make sure you are not contra-indicated to any, some oils may not be suitable for certain health conditions.
